Great Migration Safari in the Masai Mara, Kenya 2024

July 20-27  - Full

July 27-August 3  - Full

August 3-10 - Two spots available

Experience the best of the mara as we enjoy three nights at Entim Camp in the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve and three nights at Lerai Camp in a private conservancy just outside the park.

Itinerary:

Day one:  Arrive in Nairobi and be transported to our luxury hotel. There are direct flights to Nairobi on Kenya Air from Nairobi. Other major airlines connect in Europe.

Day two:  Meet for breakfast to go over the plans for the week. After breakfast, we are transferred to the regional airport for our forty minute scenic flight over the Rift Valley to the mara. We'll see wildlife from the air as we approach the landing strip inside the national park. Our friendly Masai guides will be there to greet us. We will load our bags in the Toyota Land-cruisers and be off on our first game drive. It will take us about thirty minutes to reach camp depending on how long we stop to see giraffe and antelope along the way. Once we arrive at camp, we will check into our Maru style luxury tents. Then we will sit down for a nice lunch and perhaps a glass of wine or Tusker beer. The view from main camp is spectacular. We could even witness a river crossing from the comfort of the veranda. Around 4:30, we will take our first afternoon game drive. We don't need to go far from camp to see the big five. As the sun begins to set, we will drive slowly back to Entim. A warm fire awaits. The staff at Entim will be eager to serve you a cocktail and hors d'oeuvres fireside. Then we will be seated for our four course meal with excellent wines. After dinner most will be ready to call it a day. You will hear hippos, hyenas, and lions during the night. Don't worry, they are not as close as they seem.

Day three: A staff member will wake you with french press coffee and biscuits. Walk outside your tent to see an incredible star filled sky and the southern cross. We will leave camp in time to see the sun come up over herds of thousands of wildebeest. After morning game viewing, we will find a scenic location for our breakfast in the bush. Coffee, pancakes, fruit and yogurt along with pastries will be served. After, we drive slowly back to camp stopping for game viewing along the way. You may rest in your tent or check emails on the camp wifi before lunch. After lunch relax at main camp or take a nap in your tent. Then meet for our afternoon game drive and dinner as the previous day.

Day four: After a brief morning game drive we will return to camp for a fabulous breakfast. Then we will grab our bags and start a game drive back through the park and to our private camp at Lerai conservancy. Lunch will be served after we check into our tents. We have many options at Lerai. We can experience game drives on foot, Land-cruiser, or even horseback. After our afternoon game drive, we gather for sundowners at a scenic spot in the conservancy. Another four-course dinner will be served at Lerai camp.

Day five: This morning, our group may opt for a hot air balloon ride over the mara plains. It's followed by a champaign breakfast under an acacia tree. In the afternoon we can once again choose how we want to see the animals. We also have the option of a night time game drive where we see those animals that only come out after dark.

Day six:  We will have a morning game drive in the park. After a bush breakfast, we will visit a Masai village to learn about their culture. Then it is back to Lerai for lunch and then optional afternoon activities.

Day seven: Same as previous day.

Day eight: Sadly, this is our last morning in the Mara. We will take a morning game drive in the conservancy and return for breakfast. After breakfast, we will pack up and drive back to the airstrip for our flight to Nairobi. A driver will take us from the airport to the hotel where we can rest up for our flight back home.

What can you expect to see during your week long stay? The animals you will see is too long to list here. We should see lions, leopard, cheetah, elephants, zebra, antelope, hippos, and giraffe just to name a few. The migration will be getting under way during this time with thousands of wildebeests crossing the Mara river from Tanzania into Kenya. We will most likely witness a heart stopping river crossing with wildebeest and zebra jumping into the river and swimming in croc infested waters.
